“Simply Nutrition is our own hidden gem in Lincoln,” said customer Stacey Hisey. “Not only do they make you feel that you are part of the Simply Nutrition family when you visit, they are responsive to the needs of the community.”

The Lincoln Messenger talked to Simply Nutrition owners Shannon and Jason Daetwiler about their business at 855 Twelve Bridges Drive.  Shannon Daetwiler answered.

How long have you been in Lincoln?

“We opened Simply Nutrition on April 1, 2016. We have lived in Lincoln for over 10 years and call it our hometown. My husband (Jason) and I noticed that Lincoln had lost its health food store, and since we live near Twelve Bridges, we would frequent the shopping center where we are currently located for dinner some nights and dream about someday being able to open a health food store of our own. I remember peaking into the empty space that was just concrete about a year or more before we actually opened and envisioning the space and how we would design it and how we would use it to benefit the community. Our kids were shocked when we actually told them our dream was becoming a reality. It was a wonderful process to see come to life.”

How has the Lincoln community impacted your business and how do you give back to the community?

“The Lincoln community has really gotten behind us and supported our business. Once they find us and have a unique personalized experience that they are happy with, they have been gracious to continue to shop with us, tell their friends and send others our way. Lincoln is such a great community to live and to do business in. Most customers understand the impact of doing business in the community in which they live so that tax dollars and support can continue to flow to their hometown.
We honor that support by giving back as often as we can. We love to give to schools and youth sports as that especially hits close to home having two teenagers ourselves at Lincoln High School. Organizations we have supported include Lincoln Zebra football, baseball, trap, Sober Grad, Twelve Bridges Elementary School, Glen Edwards Middle School, Lincoln Christian Academy, Rocklin Academy, Lincoln fireworks, Lincoln Potters, St. Baldrick’s, Soroptomists and so many more!”

What steps have you taken to ensure that your company continues to be successful?

“It took some time to establish ourselves in this community but we focused on what we do best with customer service, education and selection. We made sure we did not need our business to live on while it was growing and always put back into the business first. We always wanted our customers to feel and know that we were committed to having product available for them when they needed it and not question the health of our business. We love that our business has created relationships within the community, not just for us but between others as they meet up and gather in our store as well. To facilitate that sense of community, we also hold events like our anniversary and Black Friday … as we show our customer appreciation and give away a lot of free items to our customers through gift bags and gift baskets.

Is there anything you would like the Lincoln community to know?

“At Simply Nutrition, our mission is ‘Keeping Good Health Simple’ by focusing on the basics of good health and nutrition.  We want you to feel at home and feel like family when you shop us! We all have or have had some health concerns or crisis and can sympathize and empathize with how you feel on some level. We are here to help you as best we can and appreciate the opportunity to serve our customers.”

What becomes the greatest reward about what you guys do and what your business offers?

“The greatest reward is being able to go to work every day, do what we love and help others. Our business is not something we take lightly and work very hard to achieve the kind of experience that we ourselves would want to have. We love the relationships that we are building within our community. We look forward to making a difference on a personal level in the lives of people and on a local level by supporting our community.”

What remains some of the challenges of operating a nutrition company in a small town?

“The largest challenge includes the internet as some people will choose online shopping convenience over going out. To overcome this challenge, we offer competitive pricing as well as free same-day delivery so they don’t have to leave their house. We also try and educate our customer on the importance of shopping local whether it is our business or others as it is important to realize that keeping monetary support and tax dollars in town is important to the stability of our local economy.”
