When committee members met Monday to discuss last-minute details for the second annual Chocolate Lover’s Ball, they could not decide which was better: three courses of chocolate-enhanced gourmet food or getting to dance in Beermann’s historic ball room.
Pam Lopez and Helen Johnson, committee members for the annual fundraiser, decided that both the eating and the dancing were wonderful.
“It’s really going to be a fun time and people will be able to experience a unique chocolate-themed menu,” Lopez said.
“And you’ll get to dance at Beermann’s before their public opening,” Johnson added.
The grand opening for Beermann’s restaurant and bar will be held in the spring, said owner Curtis Smith.
Sponsored by the Downtown Lincoln Association, the annual fundraiser will support programs that promote Lincoln’s downtown businesses, according to Lopez.
The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 13. The cost is $75 per person, which includes a formal sit-down dinner, a no-host bar, deejay-dance music and raffles that offer a big screen television, 25 additional prizes and $1,000 cash, according to Lopez.
Gold medal award-winning chefs Cal DeMercurio and Ben DeMercurio said they designed a unique dinner for the fundraiser that will be enhanced with “elements of chocolate.” The meal will begin with hors d’oeuvres, a spring salad with Balsamic dressing, a main entrée of roast tenderloin with a chocolate merlot reduction sauce and a vegetarian option, and desserts that include a Lady Godiva mousse and Bailey’s Irish Cream brulee.
“I’m excited by the creativity and uniqueness of using chocolate throughout the full course meal.” Cal DeMercurio said. “I’m sure the guests’ palates will be in for a very special treat.”
DeMercurio and his brother, Ben, are head chefs at Beermann’s.
