It is not yet over except for the shouting, but the Lincoln High boys soccer team can give out a victory cry after getting by Colfax 1-0 on the Falcons’ grass pitch Wednesday.

The win gave the Fighting Zebras 12 total points in the Pioneer Valley League and Colfax remained at 10 points. It is the fourth one-goal victory Lincoln has had over the last two weeks.

Lincoln 1, Placer 0

The Zebras used a solid defense and a single goal on Lincoln’s pitch for the win Monday.

Lincoln’s Orlando Basurto provided the assist and Jackson Esparsa put the ball in the net to help keep the Zebras undefeated on the season.

Lincoln head coach George Bonilla is a defense-minded coach, but said during the Foothill match Jan. 31 that he was concerned with his club’s inability to score. In their first three PVL matches, Lincoln scored eight goals; in the last three matches they have scored four.

All we want is to compete every game,” Bonilla said. “If we’re in the game, and it’s 0-0, we’re able to compete and have an opportunity to win.”

In the game at Colfax, the score was 0-0 until the second half.

Against Placer, backup goalkeeper Payton Forbes’ made a save that helped keep the Zebras on course for, perhaps, their third straight conference title.

Lincoln's final two matches will be on the road against Bear River and Center, the No. 6 and No. 5 PVL teams respectively. The Falcons will have to play No. 4 Foothill and No. 3 Placer.

A league championship would assure the defending Division III section champions of at least one home match in the playoffs.
