Many students sat at this Lincoln High School desk, which is now part of an exhibit at the Lincoln Area Archives Museum at 640 5th St. Does anyone remember why the desks had these brackets? Send your answer to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Answers will appear in next week’s newspaper.
Two Lincoln residents knew the answer about last week’s mystery item, which is a corn grinder or a Fulton corn sheller.
Dale Hurlbut said that “the picture of the item on page 8A looks like a hand corn sheller.”
And Ovlan Fritz, Jr. said, “It is a corn sheller or corn shucker. It is for removing the corn kernels from the cob. As you turn the handle, the corn ear is pulled into the device and the kernels go in one direction and the empty cob falls out the bottom.”
The Lincoln Area Archives Museum is a jewel. If you haven’t been there lately, you might be surprised with all that the museum has to offer. Museum hours are between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. It’s definitely worth multiple visits.
