The Lincoln High girls basketball team defeated Yuba City 46-36 Thursday night to open the Chavez Classic tournament, with two key players out with injuries.

Kalyna Kim, the Fighting Zebras’ leading scorer, was out with a sprained ankle and Makayla Franco has been out with a back injury.

However, Lincoln got production from across the bench to stop the 4-4 Honkers.

Sophomore Carolyn McCommas scored 10 points and freshman Madison Roberts added nine to lead the Zebras. Junior Mackenzie Eutsey and Keegan Linke scored seven and six points respectively.

Lincoln, a team with no seniors, also did all of their scoring from inside the 3-point arc. The Zebras also shot 57 percent from the free-throw line for an additional 12 points.

Although the Zebras were plagued by 29 turnovers, the club compensated by pulling down 36 rebounds.  Linke and Roberts had seven boards apiece and McCommas and Eutsey combined for 10.

Lincoln plays Oroville Friday at 8 p.m. The Zebras lost to the Tigers 49-44 Dec. 8.

Placer defeated River Valley 52-49 and will play Yuba City Friday at 5 p.m.

Oroville lost its tournament opener 63-25 to Nevada Union. River Valley and Nevada Union are scheduled to tip off at 6:30 p.m.
