Everett and Williamson make a run for state
Destiny Everett and Saedy Williamson will both head for Folsom Saturday to compete in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championships at Willow Hill.
At subsections, Everett was unable to overtake Ponderosa’s Natalie Wieland, but took second in the Division II girls varsity 3-mile event at Frogtown, Angels Camp Saturday. The senior crossed the finish line in 19:05.5.
Her Fighting Zebras teammate Saedy Williams also qualified for sections, coming in 11th in 19:39.1, giving an indication of the fierceness of the competition. However, Williamson was the second-fastest individual qualifier, as runners three through 10 all qualified as members of a qualifying team.
The state meet could well be in the near future for Everett and Williamson.
St. Francis dominated the subsection’s Division II with 32 points. Whitney was second at 104.
Lincoln’s Peyton Derepentig qualified as an individual for D-II frosh/soph girls. The freshman was 17th, running the 2-mile course in a time of 14:24.8.
