Pickleballers travel near and far for gold

More than two dozen Lincoln Hills pickleball players ventured south to Utah’s red-rock country for back-to-back renowned tournaments this month.

Meanwhile, the rookies played in a hometown tournament on the Lincoln Hills courts Oct. 21.

At the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, Utah last week, Mike Hilton and Sharon Klotz picked up two medals each. They won podium spots in singles and in doubles, each with different partners.

Lincoln Hills medalists included:

Gold – the team of Mike Hilton and Robin Haney; Silver – Charles Hooper, Lynn Fraser, and Klotz, and Bronze – Hilton, Mike Irwin, Klotz, and Carol Nakao.

Several Pickleball Club players earned medals in other sports as well.

Ron Greeno and Richard Norman were part of the Coyotes 70-plus championship gold-medal softball team. Individually, Kathy Spencer claimed a bicycling bronze.

Fall Brawl

The “Fall Brawl” was held the week before in St. George. Lincoln Hills medalists included: Gold – Charles Hooper; Silver – Richard Norman and Bronze – Klotz.

Rookie Mixed Doubles

Back home in Lincoln Hills Oct. 21, the Rookie Mixed-Doubles Tournament drew five teams.

First place went to Tom and MaryAnn Van Woerkom, followed by Robert and Mari Swanson, and Steve Baron and Kathy Carpenter.
