New home sales in and around Placer County had a solid month in September.

It’s a sign for the chairman of the Roseville-based North State Building Industry Association that 2015 is going to close on a strong note.

Through the end of September, 2,518 new homes have closed escrow in a region that takes in Placer County as well as Yolo and Sacramento counties. The total includes 234 sales in September – up from 196 in September 2014. It’s the highest September tally since 2008’s 279 home sales.

Placer County relinquished its long-held position as sales leader in the region, recording 66. That compares with the new sales leader – the South Sacramento-Elk Grove area, which reported 66.

“With the September sales, we’re pleased to report that we have already surpassed the sales tally for the entirety of 2014,” Building Industry Association Chairman Barry Grant said, after release of figures Friday.

The region closed 2014 with 2,440 sales.

“With 2,518 sales already in the books, our short-term goal is to hit at least the 3,000 sales mark for 2015,” Grant said.

The Building Industry Association also records the price points for new homes sold. A total of 52 of the 234 sales in September were in the $351,000-$400,000 range. In August, the leading sales range was between $451,000 and $500,000.
